Softball Splits Doubleheader at Lafayette

Red Foxes Take Game One, McDonald Belts 20th Homer

EASTON, Pennsylvania – The Marist softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Lafayette on Wednesday. The Red Foxes prevailed 9-3 in game one, but dropped the second game by a score of 6-5.

Game One
  • Marist scored twice in the top of the third on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Miah McDonald and Haley Ahr, which brought home Sophia Recrosio and Peyton Pusey, respectively.
  • Lafayette grabbed the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third.
  • Marist scored seven in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good. The inning featured a three-run double by Samantha Rogers.
  • The Red Foxes finished with 10 hits. Pusey went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Ahr was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ronni Howard was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Anna Sidlowski pitched four scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts for the win. Sidlowski improved her record to 14-4.

Game Two
  • McDonald homered on the first pitch she saw in the top of the first to give Marist a 1-0 lead. It was her 20th of the season, as she became the first player in the MAAC to reach this milestone in 23 years, and just the second in the conference's history.
  • Maddie Pleasants homered in the top of the fourth to extend Marist's lead to 2-0. It was Pleasants' five home run in her last eight games.
  • Megan Coyle's three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth gave Lafayette a 3-2 lead.
  • The Leopards scored three more times in the sixth to go up 6-2.
  • Sophia Recrosio delivered an RBI single in the top of the seventh, and then Pusey hit a two-run homer to cut Marist's deficit to 6-5. The Red Foxes later got the tying run on base, but were unable to score again.
  • McDonald and Pleasants finished with two hits apiece. Pleasants also pitched the first five innings. She struck out five, walked just one, and all three runs she allowed were unearned.

Up Next
  • Marist (34-16) wraps up the regular season with a three-game MAAC series at Fairfield.
  • The Red Foxes and Stags will play a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
  • First pitch is set for noon on both days.
