PRINCETON, New Jersey - The Marist Men's Rowing Team competed in their last race of the season on Saturday, June 1 by racing in the 4th final for the Open Heavyweight Fours at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association's (IRA) Men's National Championship Regatta. Marist had started racing yesterday in the Time Trial placing 28th and then the D/E/F semi final placing 1st to earn their spot in this D Final.
The lineup in this Marist Four was:
Gavin Crouch (stroke)
Nolan Libby (3)
Tristan Wistuba (2)
Axel Anderegg-Durwood (bow)

Racing against Marist in the D final was Stanford, La Salle, Cornell, Adrian, and Northeastern. Marist had a strong start in the race and coming through the 500m mar were level with the other crews in the race. As the middle 1000m wore on the Marist Four faded somewhat while the fours from Stanford and LaSalle stretched away bringing Cornell with them. With 500 to go Adrian had also taken a small lead over Marist as well and Northeastern was dead even. Marist pushed hard in the final meters and the result was an extremely close finish for 5th and 6th with Northeastern just edging the red foxes by 0.2 of a second. With this result Marist secured a placing of 24th for the regatta. The Winner of their final was Stanford and the winner of their event was the University of Washington.
Coach's Comments:
Today we had a strong race but probably not as good as our effort from yesterday evening. The crew had a strong start but let ourselves get moved on in the middle of the piece and were unable to find the same great rhythm in the middle of the piece. Regardless we're proud of the crew who had an excellent training camp and gained extremely valuable training and racing experience for the coming years. We want to thank Gavin our team captain and Axel, our two seniors who had a great career at Marist and were patient and valuable leaders this year for a very young crew. With team building foremost in our minds the team is extremely excited to get back to training already and as we enter the off season this team will NOT be standing still this summer. We'll see you in the spring. Go Red Foxes
The Men's Rowing Team will be back to training and racing this coming fall beginning in September!
