FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Marist women's basketball struggled as the Red Foxes came up short on the road against Fairfield, 70-31, Saturday afternoon inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
With the loss, Marist fell to 7-8 on the season and 2-3 in the MAAC, while Fairfield improved to 11-3 on the campaign and 5-0 in conference play.
The Stags came out firing from the jump, holding Marist to just four points on 16.7% (2-12) from the floor in the frame, as Fairfield carried a 17-4 advantage into the second.
The Stags used the opening 4:50 of the frame to go on a 7-2 run before Marist called a timeout trailing 24-6 midway through the quarter. The Red Foxes only mustered four points in the frame, trailing 31-8 at the half.
The Red Foxes more than doubled their scoring output from the first half, as Marist scored 12 points in the frame to bring the deficit to 51-20 into the final period.
Time was not on the Red Foxes' side, as they couldn't cut the deficit to within 20 before eventually falling 70-31.
- Marist will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 16, when the Red Foxes play host to MAAC foe Saint Peter's for Kid's Day.
