NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – The Marist men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up competition at the ITA Division I Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Yale University, with several impressive individual and doubles performances.
For the men, sophomore
Gregor Heinemann and freshman
Alejandro Abella Fernandez picked up a doubles victory over Siena's Koliadynski and Castellazzi, 8-6, before falling in a tight 9-8 (4) battle to Cornell's Pinzon and Teodorovic. Graduate student
Jose Catala and senior
Nick Suhanitski opened their weekend with a 4-1 (ret.) win over Sacred Heart's Garbacz and McRae but were edged 8-6 by Dartmouth's Bao and Halmos in the next round. Sophomore
Ian Layton and sophomore
Fateh Singh also competed in doubles, falling 8-5 to Brown's Murphy and Lian.
In singles, Suhanitski, sophomore
Anirudh Nallaparaju, and Abella each earned a first-round win. Suhanitski defeated Bryant's Peterson, 6-1, 6-4; Nallaparaju topped Niagara's Garcia Uribe, 6-1, 6-3; and Abella downed Holy Cross's Illanes, 6-2, 6-3. All three were eliminated in their next matches, while Catala dropped his opening round to Yale's Liao, 6-2, 6-4.
On the women's side, sophomore
Viktoria Lorentzon led the way by advancing to the Round of 16 in the main singles draw. After dropping the opening set in each of her first two matches, Lorentzon battled back to defeat Brown's Woo, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, and Boston University's Borisova, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5, before narrowly falling to Cornell's Loudon, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Ella Lindsey also competed in the main draw, falling to Rhode Island's Darcy, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, freshman Tess Wachtel and Lorentzon earned back-to-back wins, defeating Holy Cross's Devine and Flynn, 8-3, and UMass's top duo of Tye and Faessler, 8-5. Their run ended in the quarterfinals with an 8-5 loss to Brown's Maguy and Moody. Junior

Yasmin Asnis also competed in doubles, dropping an 8-2 decision to Syracuse's Shasta and Wojcik.
