POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men's soccer team dropped a MAAC matchup against Sacred Heart, falling 3-0 on Wednesday evening at Tenney Stadium.
The match was physical throughout, with eight yellow cards issued between the teams and a red card assessed to Marist in the 39th minute.
The Pioneers struck first in the 10th minute off the foot of Ivan Morcillo, assisted by Brady Poor. Marist created several opportunities in the opening half with seven corner kicks and five shots but was unable to capitalize.
Playing a man down, the Red Foxes saw Sacred Heart double its lead in the 64th minute as Morcillo netted his second goal, assisted by David Garcia Gallego. Danny Istambouli extended the margin to 3-0 in the 75th minute, also assisted by Garcia Gallego.
Sacred Heart goalkeeper Luca Marinelli made three saves in the shutout, while Marist's
Jamie Lowell finished with one stop.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, October 18, at Merrimack College for a 4 p.m. contest.
