NORTH ANDOVER, Massachusetts — The Marist men's soccer team played to a 1–1 draw on the road Saturday afternoon at Merrimack, as both goals came in the opening half at Martone-Mejail Field.
Senior defender Gijs Verheul continued his strong form, scoring his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 26th minute to give the Red Foxes the early lead. Verheul pounced on a loose ball inside the box and finished into the back of the net to make it 1–0 Marist.
The Warriors responded in the 40th minute when Theom Samba equalized with a strike off a counterattack, and the match remained level through full time.
Marist (6–3–3 overall, 2–3–1 MAAC) controlled much of the play, outshooting Merrimack 12–7 and placing six shots on target to the Warriors' two. Goalkeeper Jamie Lowell made one save in the draw, while Merrimack's Nelton Semedo stopped five Marist attempts.
The Red Foxes continued to generate chances in the second half, but could not find a breakthrough.
