POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Marist men's soccer team earned a decisive 3–1 victory over Rider in a Friday night MAAC matchup at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes improve to 7–3–3 overall and 3–3–1 in MAAC play.
Rider opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Xavi Csato found the back of the net off an assist from William Baker.
The Red Foxes drew level in the 40th minute as freshman
Adriano Iannello made a run down the left wing and lofted a cross into the box that sophomore
Gijs Verheul headed home for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Marist took the lead in the 54th minute when sophomore
Chris Verheul buried his third goal of the year on a setup from freshman
Ben Mills.
Senior
Jonathan Salguero sealed the win in the 87th minute, finishing a feed from sophomore
Caio Cavaletti.
The Red Foxes outshot Rider 21–6 and held a 10–3 advantage in shots on target. Graduate student goalkeeper
Jamie Lowell made two saves in the win, while Rider's Marius Helias stopped seven shots.
Marist returns to action on Wednesday, October 29, with a 3 p.m. road match at Siena.
