POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's soccer picked up a home win in conference play, defeating Canisius 2-0 on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.
The Red Foxes (6-6-4 overall, 5-1-4 MAAC) honored their senior class before kickoff, then put together a complete team performance to secure the shutout victory.
Marist opened the scoring in the 29th minute when
Olivia Lindsay finished a well-worked play, slotting home a feed from
Sophia Dorsey with an additional assist credited to
Ava Nielsen. The Red Foxes continued to dictate tempo for much of the half, outshooting the Golden Griffins 5-3 through the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half,
Gabby Tirado doubled the lead in the 54th minute, finding the back of the net for her team-leading goal total. From there, Marist's defense stood tall, anchored by goalkeeper
Maddy Catalanotti, who made four saves in over 83 minutes of action.
Samantha Graf entered late to help preserve the clean sheet.
Marist finished with 10 shots, eight of which were on target, while limiting Canisius (5-8-1, 5-4-1 MAAC) to just one corner kick.
The win marked the Red Foxes' fifth MAAC victory and extended their unbeaten streak at Tenney Stadium.
Marist now turns its attention to the final stretch of the regular season, closing out conference play on the road next week.
