LEWISTON, New York – The Marist women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Niagara on Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Center. The Purple Eagles won by set scores of 26-24, 25-22, and 25-17.
For the Red Foxes, senior Sarah Bumstead had 10 kills while hitting .563 along with a block. Mallory Reck contributed 12 kills and 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season, while Caelyn Dumas posted 16 assists and 11 digs.
Marist battled tightly in the opening frame, erasing a late deficit to even the score at 24 before Niagara secured the final two points to take the set. The Red Foxes continued to pressure the Purple Eagles in the second, but Niagara pulled away down the stretch and carried the momentum into the third.
Eleana Koute chipped in 10 kills on .333 hitting, and Cecilia Potter-Pessoa anchored the defense with 18 digs. As a team, Marist tallied seven blocks and 41 kills on a .125 attack percentage.
With the loss, Marist moves to 7-16 overall and 5-6 in MAAC play.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Tuesday, October 28, when they travel to Siena for another conference matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Loudonville, New York.
