Football Hosts San Diego on Family Weekend

Red Foxes Host Toreros Saturday for Noon Kickoff at Tenney Stadium

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University football team (2-2 overall, 0-1 Pioneer Football League) hosts San Diego (3-2, 1-0) on Saturday at Tenney Stadium. The 18th all-time meeting between the Red Foxes and Toreros is set for a noon kickoff.

National Recognition
  • Nate Robinson Jr. was named Stats Perform FCS Defensive Player of the Week after a 10-tackle, two-interception performance at Wagner.
  • Robinson is second in the nation in passes defensed per game (2.0), and seventh in interceptions per game (0.75).
  • Chase Hatton has earned Honorable Mention for Stats Perform FCS Freshman of the Week twice, following Marist's wins against New Haven and Wagner.
  • Ethan Yuska earned Honorable Mention for Stats Perform FCS Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging 45.8 yards on five punts at Butler.
  • Connor Hulstein, who has caught a touchdown pass in every game this season, is 12th in the FCS in touchdown receptions.
  • Hulstein is the first Red Fox since 2018 (Juston Christian) to score a receiving touchdown in four straight games.
  • Chris Leonardo is a national semifinalist for this year's Campbell Trophy.
  • Marist ranks in the FCS' top 10 in kickoff return average (first, 38.0), interceptions (second, 7), forced turnovers (third, 11), turnover margin (sixth, +1.5 per game), and defensive fourth down conversion percentage (seventh, .250).

  • The Toreros opened PFL play with a 30-27 home victory over St. Thomas last Saturday, as they scored the game's final 20 points to erase a 27-10 deficit in the third quarter.
  • Emiliano Salazar kicked two field goals in the final two minutes, including the game-winner with no time left, to earn FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week and PFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • In non-league play, San Diego defeated #24 Southern Utah and earned a come-from-behind win over Princeton. At Princeton, the Toreros scored the game's final 21 points after trailing by 21 in the first half.
  • San Diego was picked to finish first in the PFL Preseason Coaches' Poll. All 10 coaches of the other teams in the league picked the Toreros to finish in the top three (five first-place votes, four seconds, and one third).
  • Head coach Brandon Moore is in his third season.
