POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist University women's basketball team earned a gritty 55-51 win over non-conference opponent Stony Brook on Wednesday evening at McCann Arena.
Sophomore guard
Danielle Williamsen led the way with a season-high 16 points on 7-for-14 shooting to go with four rebounds and two steals. Freshman forward
Justine Henry gave the Red Foxes two scorers in double digits, adding 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one block.
With the win, Marist improves to 2-3 on the season while Stony Brook drops to 2-3.

- Williamsen knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner to give Marist a 13-6 lead at the 4:40 mark as the Red Foxes hit five of their first seven attempts from the field.
- Marist led 15-8 after one with five different Red Foxes scoring in the opening frame.
- The Seawolves opened the quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 16-15 lead with 8:06 left in the half.
- The Red Foxes regained the lead at 24-23 on a 3-pointer from senior captain guard Lexie Tarul at the 2:00 mark.
- Â Marist took a 26-25 lead into the locker room. Williamsen and junior forward Karly Fischer led the first half with seven points each.
- The Seawolves took a 36-34 lead at the media timeout with 4:24 to go.
- Â A Marist scoring drought lasting more than three minutes helped Stony Brook stretch its lead to 39-34.
- Â Henry ended the drought by sinking two free throws, but the Red Foxes trailed 39-36 after three.
- Williamsen made her second 3-pointer to tie the game and Tarul followed with her third from deep to give Marist a 44-41 lead at the 5:24 mark.
- Â After Stony Brook tied the game at 44-44, the Red Foxes responded with an 8-0 run to take a 52-44 lead with 2:17 remaining.
- Â The Seawolves hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to two with 56 seconds left.
- Â Senior captain guard Jackie Piddock made one free throw to put Marist up 53-50.
- Â Stony Brook had several chances late but the Red Foxes held firm on defense. Piddock made two more free throws to close out the win, 55-51.
- Piddock finished with nine points and a season-high six assists.
- Fischer added nine points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.
- Tarul recorded nine points, a season-high seven rebounds and one block.
- The Red Foxes shot .389 (21-for-54) from the field and .316 (6-for-19) from three, while holding Stony Brook to .351 (20-for-57) overall and .318 (7-for-22) from deep.
- Marist concludes its five-game homestand against Monmouth on Monday, Nov. 24.
