POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist University women's basketball team fell 72-64 in overtime to non-conference opponent Monmouth on Monday evening at McCann Arena.
Junior forward Karly Fischer led the Red Foxes with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Danielle Williamsen added 15 points, while freshman forward Justine Henry contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Senior captain guard Lexie Tarul recorded her first double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
- Marist took a 9-4 lead at the media timeout with 4:48 left in the opening frame.
- A 7-0 Monmouth run, capped by an and-one, put the Hawks ahead 11-9 at the 3:18 mark.
- Senior captain guard Jackie Piddock hit a jumper at the buzzer to give the Red Foxes a 14-13 lead after one.
- Monmouth used another 7-0 run to take a 24-17 lead, forcing a Marist timeout at the 3:54 mark.
- The Red Foxes trailed 28-22 at halftime after shooting 3-for-16 from the field in the second quarter.
- After Tarul opened the second half with two free throws, Monmouth answered with a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 35-24 with 6:45 remaining.
- The Hawks took a 43-36 lead into the fourth.
- Marist cut the deficit to 43-38 on a putback by junior guard Malea Egan, prompting a Monmouth timeout with 8:36 left.
- A jumper from Fischer made it 45-42, forcing another Hawks timeout at the 6:09 mark.
- Williamsen tied the game at 50-50 with a driving layup at the 2:20 mark.
- Monmouth regained the lead, but Henry answered with a turnaround jumper to make it 52-52 with 46 seconds remaining.
- After a free throw and a second-chance Monmouth basket made it 55-52, Henry sank two free throws to cut the deficit to one with 9.2 seconds left.
- The Hawks pushed the lead back to three with two free throws, but Tarul hit a 3-pointer out of a timeout to tie the game and force overtime.
- Monmouth outscored Marist 15-7 in the extra period to secure the win.
- Marist is heading to St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., for the Paradise Jam with games on Nov. 28 and 29.
- Tip-off against LSU on Thursday is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN+.
- The Red Foxes will then face either Washington State or Miami (OH) on Friday at 5 or 7:30 p.m.
