Red Foxes Set for Home Opener on Friday Night

Marist Hosts Drexel at McCann Arena

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's basketball team returns to action for its home opener on Friday evening, as the Red Foxes take on non-conference opponent Drexel. Tip-off from McCann Arena is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes fell 74-46 to UAlbany of the America East Conference at the Broadview Center in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
  • Sophomore guard Chloe Escanillas led the Red Foxes with a career-high 14 points (4-for-5 from three) in 10 minutes off the bench.
  • Senior guard Lexie Tarul added 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting, including two 3-pointers.
  • Sophomore guard Danielle Williamsen chipped in eight points and a team-high three assists.
LEADER OF THE PACK
  • Head Coach Erin Doughty is in her third season at the helm of the Red Foxes in 2025-26.
  • Doughty earned her first victory as a Div. I head coach in Marist's 76-68 victory over Army in the 2023-24 season-opener on Nov. 9, inside of McCann Arena.
  • Doughty earned her first conference victory as a Div. I head coach in Marist's 65-55 victory over Rider on Jan. 12, 2024, inside of McCann Arena.
  • She was named to the Hudson Valley Forty Under 40 List on Feb. 21, 2024.
  • This season is her 24th year of association with the Marist women's basketball program, which previously includes time as a student-athlete, student assistant coach, assistant coach, associate head coach, and now head coach.
LOCKING UP
  • Marist held its opponents below 70 points in all but
    three contests last season.
  • Marist held its opponent to 50 points or less five
    times last season.
  • The Red Foxes forced opponents to shoot 37.8%
    from the floor last season, which ranked second in
    the MAAC and 46th in the country.
  • Marist held its opponents to 59 points per game,
    which was fifth best in the MAAC and ranked 61st in
    the nation.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
  • Drexel is led by Amy Mallon, who boasts 100 wins entering her sixth season with the Dragons.
  • The Dragons are coming off a 68-60 win over ACC opponent Pittsburgh in their season opener.
  • Junior guard Laine McGurk scored 33 points on 13-for-19 from the field, including 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.
  • Drexel was picked to finish second in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
HISTORY VS DREXEL
  •  Friday's contest against Drexel will mark Marist's fourth contest against the Dragons.
  •  The Red Foxes are 1-2 all-time against Drexel.
  •  The Dragons came away with a 64-53 victory over Marist in the last meeting  in Philadelphia on Nov. 7, 2024.
NEXT TIME OUT
  • Marist will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 11, when the Red Foxes host Bryant.
  • Tip-off inside McCann Arena is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
