EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Marist University women's basketball team fell to Mount St. Mary's, 66-59, in its MAAC opener on Friday night at Knott Arena.
Sophomore guard
Danielle Williamsen led the way with 11 points and a career-high-tying eight rebounds. Marist trailed by as many as 24 points before a late surge in the final minutes cut the deficit to single digits.
- Mount St. Mary's jumped out to a 12-3 lead, forcing a Marist timeout at the 6:06 mark.
- The Red Foxes responded with an 8-2 spurt to get within three at 14-11 with 2:56 to go in the opening frame.
- The Mount closed the quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 23-11 lead.
- The Mount led 32-18 at the media timeout with 3:57 remaining in the half.
- Marist trailed 39-24 at halftime.
- Mount St. Mary's opened the second half with a 6-0 run to increase its lead to 21 points.
- Senior forward Ciara Croker and freshman forward Justine Henry made layups for the Red Foxes but the Mount countered with another 6-0 run to go up 51-28, forcing a Marist timeout at the 6:03 mark.
- Marist trailed 57-38 through three quarters.
- The Red Foxes fought until the end, closing on a 14-0 run and winning the final frame 21-9, but it was not enough as the Mountaineers held on for a seven-point victory.
