WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Marist men's track & field distance squad opened its indoor season dominantly on Friday at the Army Crowell Open, hosted at Gillis Field House. In the lone event of the day for the Red Foxes, the 5,000-meter run, Marist controlled the race from start to finish, placing seven runners in the top nine and claiming a decisive event victory.

Steven Viera led the Red Foxes with a composed wire-to-wire performance, pulling away in the final laps to win the race in 15:34.01. Kevin Cannon followed closely behind, taking second in 15:40.57 to help secure a Marist sweep of the top two positions.

The Red Foxes continued to pack the front of the field, with Pierce Francis placing fourth in 15:50.56, with Kaleb Stoeckmann (15:51.02) and Chase Kober (15:53.15) finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Matthew Ferreri (15:57.52) and Dennis Love (15:58.36) also cracked the top 10, giving Marist an impressive seven sub-16:00 performers in the season opener.

Rounding out the lineup, Ryan Wisker placed 13th, Jack Dovaras finished 14th, and Mason Mayer crossed in 16th to cap an excellent showing from the full-distance group.

The Red Foxes return to action on January 9, when they participate in the TCNJ Invite.
