Marist Falls to Iona at Home

Watson Leads Red Foxes with Career-High 16 Points

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York — In a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest, the Marist men's basketball team lost 75-71 against Iona on Saturday night at McCann Arena.

First Half

Tarik Watson opened the scoring for the Red Foxes with a layup 18 seconds into the contest.
At the 15:30 mark, Parby Kabamba connected from beyond the arc to give Marist a 9-6 lead.
Martin Kawa nailed a contested three-pointer, and on the following possession, Travis Roberts completed a layup to give the Red Foxes a 16-8 lead with 11:10 remaining in the half.
Adam Nije Jr. drained a jumper to end Marist's 14-2 run at the 10:06 mark, making the score 18-10.
With 7:36 left in the half, Elijah Lewis drilled a three-pointer to make the score 21-12.
Josh Pascarelli scored five straight points to match the Red Foxes largest lead of 10 points with the score 26-16 at 5:14.
Iona responded with a 13-5 run to finish the rest of the half.
Marist was up 31-29 going into the break.

Second Half

The Gaels grabbed a five-point lead from a Nije Jr. layup at the 15:05 mark to make the score 42-37.
Roberts sunk two three-pointers in one minute of action to even the score at 45-45 with 11:58 remaining in the game.
At the 8:28 mark, Watson finished a dunk to end Iona's 9-0 run and cut the deficit to 56-49 for Marist.
DeJour Reaves connected from deep to extend the Gaels lead to eight points with 45 seconds left.
Iona held on for the remainder of the game and went on to win 75-71.

Marist shot .500 (27-for-54) from the field, .357 (10-for-28) from three-point range, and .778 (7-for-9) from the line.
Marist held Iona to .286 (4-for-14) from three-point range, but the Gaels went .520 (26-for-50) from the field and .792 (19-for-24) from the line.
