POUGHKEEPSIE, NY. – Collin Patrick tallied four goals to lead Marist men's lacrosse past Mercer in the home-opener, 16-6, inside Tenney Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the first for head coach Dave Scarcello.
The Red Foxes were led by Patrick's four goals and an assist for five points on the afternoon, while
Jake Deacy,
Michael Cassano, Josh Balcarcel, and
Drew Anderson added two goals apiece in the victory.
With the victory, Marist opens the season at 1-0, while Mercer drops to 1-1 with the loss.

- After falling behind 1-0, the Red Foxes struck for two goals within a minute of each other, courtesy of Collin Patrick and Drew Anderson to give Marist a 2-1 lead with 5:04 left in the frame.
- After Mercer tied the contest, Patrick took matters into his own hands and scored an unassisted goal late in the period to give Marist a 3-2 advantage.
- Mercer struck first in the frame to knot the contest at 3-3 early in the quarter, however, Drew Weissman tallied the first goal of his collegiate career to give the Red Foxes a 4-3 lead with 7:20 left in the half.
- Patrick followed with another goal, securing the first-half hat trick to extend the Marist lead to 5-3.
- The Bears were able to push one more goal across in the period to cut the Marist lead to 5-4 entering halftime.

- The two sides remained scoreless in the half until Mercer mustered a goal with 5:20 left in the third to tie the contest at 5-5.
- The Red Foxes struck back less than a minute later after Jake Deacy scored his first goal of the season to give Marist a 6-5 lead with 4:29 left in the third.
- Sam Ferrel followed two minutes later, streaking down the center for an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 7-5.
- Marist kept its foot on the gas with its third goal in a row, this time coming from Anderson to push the lead to 8-5.
- Josh Balcarcel wrapped up the scoring for Marist in the quarter, giving the Red Foxes a four-goal lead into the fourth.
- The Red Foxes doubled their lead following Patrick's fourth goal of the game to open the frame.
- Seconds later, Deacy launched his second goal of the day into the back of the net to take a commanding six-goal lead.
- Just 10 seconds later, Dylan Bedell secured the face-off win and then scored an unassisted goal to push the score to 12-5.
- The deficit proved to be too large for Mercer, as the Red Foxes held on for the 16-6Â victory.
