NEW ROCHELLE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 63-43 win at Iona in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at the Hynes Center on Saturday afternoon.
- Marist scored the game's first eight points as the Red Foxes held Iona scoreless for the first 8:19. The Gaels missed their first 11 shots from the field.
- The Red Foxes closed the quarter with threes from Catie Cunningham and Danielle Williamsen, and led 14-2 after 10 minutes.
- Six different Red Foxes scored in the first quarter.
- Consecutive three-pointers brought the Gaels to within eight at the 5:25 mark, but the Red Foxes answered with a jumper from Morgan Lee and a three from Lexie Tarul to go up 13.
- Iona then scored the next five, but a final-minute free throw by Tarul accounted for the final point of the half.
- Marist led 22-13 after 20 minutes.
- The Red Foxes opened the second half with a layup by Ciara Croker and two free throws by Williamsen to go up 13.
- Tarul's three in the final minute gave Marist its largest lead to that point at 18.
- Marist led 40-25 after 30 minutes.
- Julia Corsentino's three gave Marist its first 20-point lead of the game, and it led to an Iona timeout at the 8:26 mark.
- The Red Foxes led by as much as 24 before cruising to a 20-point victory.
- Tarul (14 points) led three Red Foxes in double figures, a list that also included Williamsen (12) and Jackie Piddock (10).
- Morgan Lee led the Red Foxes with 10 rebounds.
- Piddock added a team-high four assists, three rebounds, and a steal while not committing a turnover in 26 minutes.
- Marist held Iona to .295 (18-for-61) from the field and .095 (2-for-21) from three-point range.
- Talia DePetrillo led Iona with 12 points.
- The two points allowed in the first quarter were a season-best for Marist. The Red Foxes' previous low was four in the fourth quarter against Saint Peter's on Jan. 16.
- The 13 points were also the fewest allowed by the Red Foxes in the first half this season.
- Croker (nine) and Tarul (eight) tied the career highs in rebounds.
- Lee reached double digits in rebounds for the sixth time this season.
- Piddock scored in double figures for the third time this season.
- The road team has won five of the last six in the Marist-Iona series.
- Marist is 12-10 overall and 8-5 in MAAC play.
- Iona is now 9-14 this season and 7-6 in conference.
- Marist returns home to face Siena on Thursday, Feb. 13.
