Men’s Tennis Aims to Extend Winning Streak to Four Against Monmouth

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's tennis seeks to continue its strong run, as it hosts Monmouth at the Sportsplex in New Windsor, NY, on Sunday at 3:45 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
  • The Red Foxes took a commanding 4-1 victory over Lafayette on Sunday, Feb. 16.
  • Jose Catala, representing Marist at #2 singles, secured a vital 6-4, 6-2 victory and won at #2 doubles with Gregor Heinemann, 6-1, playing a key role in securing two points for the Red Foxes.
  • Like Catala, Fateh Singh played a direct part in the Red Foxes' success, claiming the doubles point with his and Augustine Damonte's 6-2 victory at #3 doubles, as well as at #6 singles, where he won 6-1, 6-4
 
Jose Leading the Way
  • Senior captain Jose Catala has been a stalwart for the Red Foxes during their three-match winning streak.
  • Catala collected victories at #1 and #2 singles against Merrimack and Lafayette, respectively.
  • In doubles, Catala, alongside his partner Gregor Heinemann, earned victories at #2 against Colgate, Merrimack, and Lafayette.
  • Catala's most dominant performance in the stretch came against Merrimack in #2 doubles with Heinemann, when they defeated their opponents 6-0.
 
Scouting Monmouth
  • This is the 16th all-time meeting between Marist and Monmouth.
  • The Hawks won the previous matchup, 4-0, on Mar. 30, 2024.
  • Monmouth has had a stellar start to the 2025 campaign, winning eight of nine matchups and losing only in its most recent outing, 7-0, to No. 28 Penn.
  • Graduate student Adam Hillerby and freshman Jakob Bonnett are the reigning Coastal Athletic Association Doubles team of the week after defeating Lehigh, 6-1, at #2 doubles.
  • Monmouth exited the MAAC as six-time consecutive conference champions at the end of the 2021-22 season before joining the CAA.
