ROCK HILL, South Carolina – The Marist University softball team earned two wins on Saturday at the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament, hosted by Winthrop.
The Red Foxes defeated Youngstown State, 3-1, in their first game of the day. Marist then defeated Charlotte by a score of 6-0.
Anna Sidlowski and
Kiley Myers each pitched complete games as the Red Foxes did not allow an earned run the entire day.
Marist is now 13-5 on the season.
- Peyton Pusey led off the bottom of the first with a bunt single, and scored the game's first run on Maddie Pleasants' infield single.
- Pusey threw out a runner at the plate to end the top of the third and preserve Marist's one-run lead.
- Youngstown State tied the game in the top of the fifth on an error, but Sidlowski induced a groundout to leave the bases loaded.
- Pusey led off the bottom of the fifth with a homer to put Marist back ahead for good. Miah McDonald followed with a double, and she scored on Pleasants' sacrifice fly.
- Pusey finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run, and an assist. McDonald and Haley Ahr each went 2-for-3, and Pleasants drove in two.
- Sidlowski scattered six hits, walked just one, and struck out three as she earned her second win of the year.
- Sienna Kunze led off the top of the second with a walk, and she scored the game's first run on an error following Ronni Howard's single. Maddie Gore then drove in Howard with a single to give the Red Foxes a two-run inning.
- Kunze's leadoff homer in the fourth put Marist up 3-0.
- In the sixth, Ahr led off with a single, and she scored on Samantha Rogers' sacrifice fly.
- Pusey reached on a bunt single in the seventh, and McDonald followed with a two-run homer to close out the scoring.
- Kunze and Ahr finished with two hits apiece. Kunze was not retired in the game, as she went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI, a home run, and a walk.
- Myers improved to 8-0 as she struck out six, did not walk anyone, and allowed just five hits.
- Myers earned her 46th career victory, which moved her into sole possession of fifth place on Marist's all-time list. She lowered her ERA to 0.59 this season.
- Ahr has multiple hits in five of her last six games.
- McDonald has homered in three of her four games this weekend.
- Marist closes out play in the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament against St. Bonaventure.
- First pitch has been moved up to 11 a.m.
