POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Jose Catala and Caterina Assi of the Marist men's and women's tennis teams have been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's & Women's Tennis Players of the Week.

This recognition comes as the second and third of the season for the Red Foxes, with Cloe Clements Sorde earning the honors on February 12.

 

Jose  Catala

Senior Jose Catala once again led the Red Foxes this week, going undefeated (4-0) in his matchups against Holy Cross and Binghamton.

In the Red Foxes' 6-1 victory over Holy Cross, Catala and his partner, Gregor Heinemann, were victorious at #1 doubles, defeating their opponents 7-6(4). He also won a three-set victory over his opponent in #1 singles, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3.

Against Binghamton, Catala, alongside Heinemann, was victorious at #2 doubles, defeating their opponents 6-4. Catala capped off his week with a victorious effort at #1 singles, defeating his opponent, 6(5)-7(7), 6-3, 1(10)-0(8).

 

Caterina  Assi

Sophomore Caterina Assi led the Red Foxes to a perfect 2-0 record this past week, playing a pivotal role in the 7-0 sweep of Holy Cross and a dominant 4-1 victory over Binghamton.

Against Holy Cross, Assi, partnered with Vihana Shresta, to secure a 6-2 win at #1 doubles. She then capped off the sweep for the Red Foxes with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory at #1 singles.

Against Binghamton, Assi claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #1 singles, spearheading the Red Foxes to a decisive 4-1 win over the Bearcats.
