Marist Softball Extends Winning Streak to 12

Red Foxes Sweep Doubleheader at Saint Peter’s to Open MAAC Play

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The Marist University softball team swept a doubleheader at Saint Peter's to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Saturday. The Red Foxes prevailed by scores of 9-0 and 15-1, both of which were in five innings.
 
Marist extended its winning streak to 12 with the two victories.
 
Game One
  • After Haley Ahr reached on a two-out single, Maddie Pleasants' homer to right center staked Marist to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Kaitlyn Husic's solo homer put Marist up 3-0 in the second.
  • The Red Foxes put it away with a six-run fifth. Samantha Rogers' grand slam lifted Marist's lead to 7-0. Peyton Pusey's two-run double then accounted for the game's final runs.
  • Marist finished with 12 hits. Pusey, Miah McDonald, Haley Ahr, and Sienna Kunze had two apiece.
  • Kiley Myers improved to 11-0 with a shutout. Myers gave up just three hits and one walk while striking out five. She threw just 57 pitches.
 
Game Two
  • Marist scored five in the top of the first. Ahr's RBI groundout opened the scoring as Pusey came in. Pleasants' single drove home McDonald. Husic walked with the bases loaded to bring home Pleasants. Maddie Gore's two-run single brought in Rogers and Ronni Howard.
  • Pleasants hit an opposite field homer in the second, which ran Marist's lead to 6-0.
  • Saint Peter's scored on an infield single in the bottom of the second.
  • McDonald's solo shot in the top of the fourth put Marist up 7-1.
  • In the fifth, Marist scored eight. Howard's triple brought in Rogers. Husic's RBI single then brought in Howard. Pusey followed with a single to score Husic. Ahr's RBI single brought home Gore. Pleasants then followed with a grand slam.
  • Pleasants went the first four innings in the circle for the win. She struck out six, and she gave up just three hits, two walks, and one run. At the plate, she went 3-for-4 with six RBIs, three runs scored, and two homers.
  • Stella Blanchard pitched a scoreless fifth in her collegiate debut with two strikeouts.
 
Notes
  • Pleasants had three homers and eight RBIs on the day, and she has nine homers in her last eight games.
  • Myers has not allowed more than one earned run in any of her 10 starts. She lowered her ERA to 0.55.
  • McDonald extended her hitting streak to 17.
  • Pusey and Ahr both have 12-game hitting streaks.
 
Records
  • Marist is 23-5 and 2-0 in the MAAC.
  • Saint Peter's is 7-10 and 0-2 in the MAAC.
