MEDFORD, MA - On Saturday, the Marist men's rowing team competed at the Malden Racing Series in Medford, MA, against Tufts University and Bates College crews. Marist competed in two races, the first set against Tufts and the second set against Bates. The crews raced along a 2 km section of the Malden River hosted at Tufts University's boathouse. The conditions were challenging, with temperatures in the mid-30s, continuous light rains, and winds ranging from light and variable to 10-15mph depending on the part of the race course as a crossing headwind. Water was choppy in the first 500m segment in the Mystic River and then shifted to flatter water through the last 1500m of the course. There was a slight head current throughout the racing.
In set one, Tufts swept Marist in all five categories. The closest race was in the 3rd Varsity Eights. The Marist Varsity eight had a close first 1000m but lost ground in the latter half of the race.

Coach's Comments: "We had an extremely challenging day on the road today, waking up to a significant snowstorm throughout the northeast that caused delays and changes to our racing plans. Marist athletes took these changes in stride and got the job done on the Malden River in classic springtime conditions. Special thanks to the coaching staff at Bates and Tufts for everyone's flexibility and adaptability, which enabled us to get into some hard-fought racing on a tough day. On the performance side, the Marist crews did a good job facing some of the top D3 opponents in the country and demonstrated some significant gains in speed since we last saw these crews in the fall. The Coaches felt that our crews performed close to their ability levels, but we're also hungry for more and excited to get back to work this week as we gear up towards next weekend!" - Campbell Woods, Head Coach of Men's Rowing.
What's Next: The Marist Men's Crew will compete next week in Worcester, MA, at our annual dual with BU, Holy Cross, Temple, and Hobart.
