POUGHKEEPSIE, NY. – Marist men's lacrosse junior Peter Murray tallied five goals to lead the No. 4 Red Foxes past No. 5 Manhattan, 16-7, in the MAAC Quarterfinals Sunday afternoon inside Tenney Stadium.
With the win, the Red Foxes advanced to the MAAC Semifinals for the first time since the 2023 campaign.
Steven Cain and Collin Patrick added a hat trick apiece to go along with Murray's five goals to lead the Red Foxes back to the MAAC Semifinals with the win.
With the win, Marist improved to 9-7 on the campaign, while Manhattan's season ends with a 6-10 mark.Â
- Marist struck first just one minute into the contest, as Collin Patrick found Steven Cain, who put it in the back of the net to give the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead
- Peter Murray added to the total at the 8:10 mark with an unassisted strike to extend the lead to 2-0
- Cain scored his second of the day with just over a minute left in the frame, making it happen on his own for an unassisted strike
- Manhattan was able to produce a goal with 11 seconds remaining in the frame to trim Marist's lead to 3-1 entering the second
- Sully MacMurphy made it a 4-1 game just 32 seconds into the frame with an unassisted goal
- Three minutes later, Josh Balcarcel found a cutting Patrick for a goal to push the Red Foxes' advantage to 5-1
- Later in the frame on a counterattack, Dylan Rocchio found a streaking Deacy for a strike to extend the lead to 6-1
- The Red Foxes stayed hot in the quarter, making it 7-1 at the 7:26 mark with a goal from Cain to lock in the first-half hat trick
- Manhattan responded less than a minute later with a goal of its own to trim its deficit to five in the first half
- Manhattan struck first in the second half with a goal at the 10:02 mark to trim Marist's lead to 7-3
- Sean Mullan scored the first goal for the Red Foxes in the second half off a feed from Cain to push the lead to 8-3 with 6:31 left in the frame
- Nearly a minute later, Drew Anderson found Patrick for the goal to extend Marist's lead to 9-3
- The Red Foxes added to their total behind a second goal of the afternoon for Murray to push the lead to 10-3 in the frame
- Marist pushed across one more goal before the end of the frame after Deacy found Murray with seven seconds left in the quarter to extend the lead to 11-3
- Mullan opened the scoring in the fourth with a goal off a feed from Anderson to extend the lead to 12-3
- Murray added to his total shortly after to give the Red Foxes a commanding 13-3 lead
- The Jaspers were able to cut their deficit to as close as eight, but it wasn't enough, as the Red Foxes held on for the 16-7 victory
- The Red Foxes will return on Thursday, May 1, when No. 4 Marist travels to take on No. 2 Siena in the MAAC Semifinals
