Erkkila Earns Spot With Team Finland for 2025 European Men’s Lacrosse Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Rising junior defender Kai Erkkila has been named to Team Finland to compete in the 2025 European Men's Lacrosse Championship.

The European Men's Lacrosse Championship, taking place for the first time since 2016, features 25 teams split into five groups. Finland is in Group A along with Latvia, England, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands.

The tournament, hosted by Poland, serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Championships, set to take place in Japan. Seven teams from the European Lacrosse Federation get a bid to the 16-team tournament.

Finland opened the tournament on July 9 with a 19-0 victory over Bulgaria. They will take on the Netherlands on Friday, before playing Latvia. Finland rounds out its group schedule with a match against England on July 14.

A rising junior, Erkkila has appeared in four career games. Before Marist, Erkkila played at St. Andrew's College High School in Ontario. In his time there, he totaled 56 points via 20 goals and 36 assists.
