Buffalo, New York – The Marist women's volleyball team began their 2025 season with a doubleheader at the Buffalo Invitational on Friday, falling to both Liberty University and Rutgers. The Red Foxes first took ok Liberty, losing to the Flames 3-0 in the morning and then fell to the Scarlet Knights 3-1 in the afternoon.

Despite the losses, the team showed flashes of strong play throughout the day. In the match against Liberty, junior
Mallory Reck led the offensive effort with a team-high 11 kills, while sophomore setter
Caelyn Dumas registered 18 assists and three service aces. Additionally, Cecilia Potter-Pessoa had a standout performance from the service line, recording a match-high five aces.

In the second match against Rutgers, Marist started strong, winning the first set 25-22. However, the Scarlet Knights rallied to take the next three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-9, and 25-14.
Sara Dasic led the Red Foxes against Rutgers with 10 kills, while
Caelyn Dumas again contributed with a team-high 30 assists.

"Obviously we're playing to win, but looking at the big picture, these matches help us learn and grow to prepare for MAAC conference play. We got better today and we can get better where we got exposed. I love our team culture and grit on the road against some very good teams." -
