POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist women's soccer team earned a point in its MAAC opener on Saturday afternoon, playing Siena to a 1-1 draw at Tenney Stadium.
After a defensive first half, the Red Foxes (1-5-2, 0-0-2) grabbed the lead in the 64th minute. Sophomore captain forward
Gabby Tirado scored her second goal of the season, finishing a setup from
Giavanna Meservy to put Marist on top 1-0.
Siena (2-2-4, 0-1-1) found the equalizer in the 78th minute when Natalie Harwood converted off an assist from Sarah Harnett.
Goalkeeper
Maddy Catalanotti was outstanding between the posts for Marist, making eight saves to keep the Saints from adding to their tally. On the other end, Siena's Cate Burns was called on just once as Marist put two of its eight shots on goal.
The match featured physical play from both sides, with three yellow cards issued in the final 25 minutes.
Marist will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when it travels to take on Saint Peter's in another MAAC contest. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
