POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Marist women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in MAAC play Wednesday night, earning a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart at Tenney Stadium.
The Red Foxes struck first in the 31st minute when freshman
Ella Bryan finished off a smooth build-up, slotting home her third goal of the season off assists from
Gabby Tirado and
Olivia Lindsay.
Sacred Heart answered back midway through the second half, as Theanna Burnett converted in the 74th minute to even the score at 1-1.
But Marist had the final word. In the 85th minute, Tirado buried the game-winner off a feed from
Mia Katchouni, sealing the Red Foxes' third win of the year and keeping their conference record spotless at 2-0-2.
Goalkeeper
Maddy Catalanotti anchored the defense with six saves, turning away several late Sacred Heart chances to preserve the result.
The win pushes Marist to 3-5-2 overall and extends its unbeaten streak in conference play to four matches. The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when Marist takes on Niagara in a MAAC match on the road at noon.
