NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Marist women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in MAAC play with a 3-1 road victory over Niagara on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Eagles opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Baillie Colling found the back of the net. But the Red Foxes responded quickly and never looked back. Less than a minute later, sophomore forward Habby Tirado struck for the equalizer, and just five minutes after that,
Olivia Lindsay converted to give Marist a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Tirado added her second of the day in the 68th minute to provide insurance and seal the victory. The brace marked her third and fourth goals of the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Maddy Catalanotti anchored the defense with three saves, keeping Niagara off the board for the final 64 minutes. Marist's back line held strong despite facing nine Niagara corner kicks, limiting the hosts to just four shots on goal.
With the win, Marist improves to 4-5-2 overall and 3-0-2 in MAAC play, extending its unbeaten streak in conference action to five matches. Niagara falls to 4-4-1 (1-3-1 MAAC).
The Red Foxes will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 1, to take on Fairfield on the road at 7 p.m.
