POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's volleyball opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Friday night at McCann Arena, where the Red Foxes dropped a 3–1 decision to Rider (18–25, 25–23, 25–16, 25–19).
Marist came out strong in the opening set, hitting .348 as a team and rolling to a 25–18 victory behind efficient play at the net. Sophomore Mallory Reck led the offense with 13 kills, while Sara Dasic added 16. Setter Claire Lewis directed the attack with 31 assists, and Cecilia Potter-Pessoa anchored the back row with 17 digs.
Rider responded by edging Marist 25–23 in the second set, then took control in the third and fourth frames with steady defense and timely serving. Despite the Red Foxes producing six team blocks, the Broncs' balanced attack proved the difference down the stretch.
Marist now turns its attention to its next conference test. The Red Foxes will host Saint Peter's on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. at McCann Arena.
