Football Hosts Bucknell Saturday Afternoon

Red Foxes Seeking 2-0 Start

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University football team will host Patriot League foe Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes' second straight home contest kicks off at 1 p.m.

FIRST SINCE ...
  • Marist's season-opening 31-14 win over New Haven on Aug. 29 was its first since 2012, when the Red Foxes prevailed at Bryant.
  • This was Marist's first non-league home victory since 2015, which occurred against Sacred Heart.
  • This was Marist's first non-league victory at all since 2017, when the Red Foxes won at Georgetown.
  • Marist had two 100-yard rushers against New Haven (Sonny Mannino, 109; Tristan Shannon, 104). It was the first time the Red Foxes had two 100-yard rushers in a game since 2018.
  • This is Marist's first 12-game regular-season schedule in program history.
  • This is the sixth time in the last 35 years Marist is starting with back-to-back home games. This also took place in 2022, 2016, 2010, 2002, and 1994.
 
WITH A WIN
  • Marist would start 2-0 for the first time since 2002.
  • Marist would have its first win against Bucknell since 2010. The Bison have currently won 10 straight in the series.
  • Marist would have two non-league wins in a season for the first time since 2009.
 
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
  • Chase Hatton earned Honorable Mention for Stats Perform FCS Freshman of the Week after totaling seven tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery against New Haven on Aug. 29.
  • Chris Leonardo is Marist's nominee for this year's Campbell Trophy.
 
FROM WEEK ONE
  • Marist ranks third in the FCS in turnover margin, fourth in turnovers forced, fourth in rushing defense, 11th in Red Zone defense, and 17th in rushing offense.
  • Marist's special teams generated three turnovers (two muffed punts, one kickoff return fumble), a blocked field goal (Jalen Carpenter), and a touchdown (Rene Barber off a muffed punt). Ethan Yuska's last two punts were both at least 50 yards, with one downed at the New Haven 2, and the other that resulted in Barber's touchdown off a muff.

  • Jason Myers, who played at Marist from 2009-12 and graduated in 2013, is in his seventh season as the Seattle Seahawks' placekicker and 11th in the NFL.
  • Myers has earned two Pro Bowl selections in his career (2018, 2022).
 
ABOUT BUCKNELL
  • The Bison were defeated at Air Force, 49-13, in their season opener.
  • Bucknell is coming off a 6-6 season with a 4-2 mark in Patriot League play. The Bison set 13 individual records, seven team records, and had their highest point total in program history last year.
  • Quarterback Ralph Rucker IV is the Patriot League's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Head coach Dave Cecchini is in his seventh season.
