Men’s Basketball’s Winning Streak Stopped by Merrimack

Schofield Scores Season-High 15

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University men's basketball team had its four-game winning streak come to an end on Monday, as the Red Foxes dropped a home game to Merrimack by a score of 68-55.
 
Summary
  • Merrimack jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but Marist scored five straight to go in front for the first time, capped by Rhyjon Blackwell draining three free throws.
  • There were six lead changes in the first 10:35.
  • Merrimack built an eight-point lead at the 5:33 mark of the first half thanks to a 13-3 run. The Warriors held the Red Foxes to one field goal over a span of 6:17.
  • Marist scored the last four points of the half thanks to two field goals by Elijah Lewis in the final 1:07, which cut Merrimack's lead to 29-25 going to the locker room.
  • A three-point play by Kevair Kennedy gave Merrimack a seven-point lead with 16;39 to go, but a 7-1 Marist run that included six points from Jason Schofield brought the Red Foxes to within one.
  • From that point forward, Marist did not make a field goal for 8:53. Merrimack outscored Marist 22-6 during this time.
  • Merrimack led by as much as 19. The Red Foxes closed the gap to 11 thanks to an 8-0 run which included six points from Blackwell, but came no closer.

  • Schofield led Marist with 15 points. He shot 6-for-10 from the field and also had four rebounds.
  • Blackwell gave Marist two double-digit scorers with 13.
  • Blackwell, Jaden Daughtry, and Jordan Gabriel led Marist with five rebounds apiece.

  • Schofield's point total was a season high. He has scored in double digits in four of his last five games.
  • The road team has won all three games in the Marist-Merrimack series since the Warriors joined the MAAC last season.
  • Blackwell went 8-for-8 from the line. He set a season high in free throws made, and tied it for free throws attempted.
