Marist Men Compete at Columbia Scorcher, Highlighted by Heat Win and Strong Field Performance

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Marist men's track and field team posted competitive midseason performances at the Dr. Sander's Columbia Scorcher, held Saturday at the Armory Track and Field Center. The Red Foxes gained valuable racing experience with a heat victory on the track and a strong showing in the jumps.

In the men's open mile, Joaquin Bell-Andrade won the first heat in convincing fashion, clocking 4:25.05 to lead the Red Fox contingent and place 40th overall in a large field. Steven Viera followed close behind in 42nd place with a mark of 4:25.43, giving Marist a tight pairing in the event.

In the invitational long jump, Manasi Simpkins continued his promising debut season with a 17th-place finish, recording a jump of 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1.5 inches).

The Red Foxes will be back in action on Jan. 31, when they participate in the BU Terrier Classic.
