Marist Enjoys Record-Setting Day in Victory over Iona

Red Foxes’ 45-Point Triumph is Largest over Division I Opponent in Program History

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University men's basketball program rolled to an 83-38 victory over Iona at McCann Arena on Sunday.
 
The 45-point margin is the largest the Red Foxes have ever recorded against a Division I opponent in their history.
 
 
Summary
  • Marist outscored Iona 16-4 over the final 6:50 of the first half, and took a 42-22 lead after 20 minutes.
  • In the second half, Marist used separate runs of 6-0, 12-0, and 9-0 to extend its lead to 43.
  • Marist's largest lead was 46, which came on two occasions, both off field goals from Jordan Gabriel.
  • Marist held Iona without a field goal for the final 6:45.

  • Marist's 38 points allowed marked its fewest in the eight-year tenure of head coach John Dunne, and the third time an opponent was held under 40. It was the fewest points Marist allowed since giving up a program-record low of 33 against Vanderbilt on Nov. 23, 2012.
  • Marist's 24 turnovers were its most since forcing 26 at Manhattan on Dec. 19, 2020. It marks the third time this season the Red Foxes have forced at least 20 turnovers in a game.
  • This is the fifth time this season Marist held an opponent under 35 percent from the field, and the 12th time an opponent was held under 40 percent.
  • The one three-pointer Marist allowed was its fewest since also allowing one at Niagara on Jan. 26, 2024.
  • Marist's 20-point halftime lead was its largest of the season.
