BOSTON, Mass. — The Marist men's track and field team delivered a historic and record-setting performance at the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday at Boston University, highlighted by two school records and an eye-opening total of 15 personal or indoor-best marks against one of the nation's deepest fields.
Amari Mathis stole the spotlight in the invitational 200-meter dash, breaking a six-year-old school record with a time of 21.66. Mathis surpassed the previous mark of 21.84 set by Glenmour Leonard-Osbourne in 2020, continuing a standout indoor season against elite competition.
Not to be outdone,
Ryan Trocolar etched his name back into the Marist record book in the invitational 400-meter dash. Trocolar crossed the line in 48.59, breaking his own school record of 48.66 set last season and capping a strong day for the Red Foxes' sprint group.
Marist's depth shined throughout the meet, particularly in the open 400 meters where
Simon Advento,
Weston LaBrecque,
Miracle Okoli, and
Emmanuel Harris all recorded personal or indoor-best performances. The Red Foxes posted multiple lifetime marks across sprint and middle-distance events, showcasing continued progress as the indoor season builds.
Distance runners also impressed on the fast BU track.
Raffi Buchakjian delivered one of the most notable improvements of the day, slicing an impressive 33 seconds off his personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:31.46. Teammate
Steven Viera joined him with a personal best of his own.
In the 5,000 meters, Marist placed two runners under the 15-minute barrier as
Jackson Borge clocked a personal-best 14:58.93, becoming the 35th runner in program history to break 15 minutes.
Kieran Donnelly, already a member of that exclusive list, matched Borge stride for stride with the same finishing time.
Additional personal bests came from
Miles Chamberlain,
Matthew Ferreri, and
Jacob Kosilla in the mile, while
Daniel Vargas recorded an indoor-best clearance in the pole vault and
Hayden Mundrake added a personal best in the shot put.
