SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Marist University men's tennis team fell to Bryant, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield.
Sophomore Gregor Heinemann and freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez accounted for Marist's two points, with both players winning the opening and final sets of their matches. Heinemann earned a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 victory, responding after dropping the second set to close strong in the decider. Abella Fernandez secured a 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 win, responding after a tight second-set loss to take control in the decider.
Bryant secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Sophomore Thomas Bevan and graduate student Dante Despontin competed at the top spot, while graduate student Jose Catala and Heinemann teamed at No. 2. Sophomore Ian Layton and Abella Fernandez paired at No. 3.
In singles, Catala competed at No. 1, Layton and sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju represented Marist in the middle of the lineup, and Bevan and Despontin rounded out the order.
- The Red Foxes head to St. Bonaventure on February 26 for a 12 p.m. start.
