COMMERCE, Texas – The Marist University softball team earned a 7-6 victory over Jackson State in the final game of the Lion Invitational on Sunday.
 
Marist now stands at 5-4 overall after going 2-2 this weekend.
 

Summary

• Jackson State broke open a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the fourth.
• Marist cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth. Haley Ahr doubled with one out, and Samantha Rogers followed with a home run.
• Peyton Pusey's two-out single in the fifth brought home Anna Sidlowski, which cut Marist's deficit to 4-3.
• Marist took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Livia Wiltsie led off the inning with a triple, and she scored on Ahr's double. Ahr then came home on Rogers' double. A bunt by Annabelle Geiser scored Rogers, which put Marist in front 6-4.
• Jackson State tied the score in the top of the seventh by scoring two unearned runs with two outs.
• Marist won the game in the bottom of the seventh. Ahr's walk-off double brought home pinch-runner Marissa Scarano with the game-winning run.

 

Stats

• Ahr went 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Rogers went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Together, they had six of Marist's 10 hits and five of the team's seven RBIs.
• Ava Metzger started for Marist and pitched the first 3.1 innings. Stella Blanchard (3-1) earned the win in relief. Blanchard did not allow an earned run over the final 3.2, and she struck out six.
• Jackson State registered nine hits.
