Mathis Crowned MAAC Champ in 60M

Red Foxes Take Fifth at MAAC Championships

NEW YORK, NY - The Marist men's track & field team turned in a strong, well-rounded performance this weekend, finishing tied for fifth place out of 10 teams at the MAAC Indoor Championships at the Armory Track and Field Center.

Marist totaled 49 team points, matching Saint Peter's for fifth in a competitive field that saw Sacred Heart claim the team title. The Red Foxes were powered by standout performances on both the track and in the field, highlighted by a conference champion, a school record, and multiple podium finishes.

Leading the way was Amari Mathis, who delivered a dominant championship performance in the sprints. Mathis captured the MAAC title in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.74 seconds after posting the fastest qualifying time in prelims. He followed that up with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, cementing himself as one of the top sprinters in the conference.

In the 400-meter dash, Ryan Trocolar put together a record-breaking performance. After advancing through prelims, Trocolar placed fourth in the finals with a school-record time of 48.09 seconds, marking one of the top highlights of the meet for Marist.

Distance standout Miles Chamberlain also made an impact, qualifying for the mile final and placing fifth overall with a time of 4:14.74. In the longer distances, Raffi Buchakjian recorded a personal best in the 3,000 meters to place sixth, contributing valuable team points.

The Red Foxes also found success in relay competition. The 4x400-meter relay team earned a third-place finish in 3:17.68, while the distance medley relay placed fourth, showcasing Marist's depth across multiple disciplines.

In the field events, Daniel Vargas posted a personal-best mark in the pole vault to place fifth, while Hayden Mundrake broke a long-standing school record in the weight throw with a toss of 14.17 meters, surpassing a mark that had stood since 2003.

Christopher Lynch added to the scoring effort with a personal-best performance in the 60-meter hurdles, advancing to the finals and placing seventh overall.

Overall, the Red Foxes combined high-level individual performances with key contributions across events to secure a top-half finish at the conference championship meet.
