ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Marist University men's tennis team posted a 4-0 sweep of St. Bonaventure on Thursday afternoon, winning the doubles point and three straight singles matches to secure the road victory.
Marist opened the day with a clean sweep in doubles. Thomas Bevan and Nicholas Suhanitski earned a 6-3 win at No. 1, graduate student Jose Catala and sophomore Gregor Heinemann secured a 6-1 victory at No. 2, and sophomore Ian Layton and freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez completed the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
In singles, Catala delivered a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 to extend the lead. Abella Fernandez followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2, and sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju clinched the match with a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Layton was competing at No. 3 when play was halted, and Heinemann and graduate student Dante Despontin's matches did not start after the Red Foxes secured the fourth point.
