COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The Marist University softball team was defeated twice in its first day of competition on Friday at the Garnet & Black Invitational.
 
In its first game of the day, the Red Foxes fell to UAB by a score of 12-3 in five innings. Marist then lost to #22 South Carolina, 11-1 in five innings.
 

Game One

• Haley Ahr started a two-out rally with a walk in the first. After a single by Samantha Rogers, she scored on a single by Livia Wiltsie.
• UAB tied the game in the bottom of the first, but Marist took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. Sienna Kunze singled with one out, and Peyton Pusey homered two batters later.
• UAB got within one in the bottom of the second, and then scored three to take the lead in the third.
• UAB scored seven in the fifth to end the game by the mercy rule. Abbi Perkins delivered a grand slam to end the game.

 

Game Two

• South Carolina scored twice in the first, twice in the second, and then broke the game open with seven in the third. This inning included a grand slam by Nia McKnight.
• Livia Wiltsie homered in the fourth to get Marist on the scoreboard.
• Peyton Pusey had two of Marist's four hits.
• Kaylie DeChicchis pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

• Marist plays back-to-back games at the Garnet & Black Invitational on Saturday.
• The Red Foxes will face #22 South Carolina at 3 p.m., followed by Queens University (Charlotte) at 5:30.
