Softball Rolls to Two Victories

Red Foxes Win Pair of Games by Mercy Rule

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The Marist University softball team won a pair of games by the mercy rule on Saturday. The Red Foxes defeated George Mason by a score of 12-2 in five innings in the first game, and then defeated Charleston Southern 14-3 in five innings in their second contest.
 
The Red Foxes are now 3-1 on the season, and they have now won three straight.
 
Game One
  • After opening the scoring with a run in the top of the first, the Red Foxes exploded for seven in the top of the second. Peyton Pusey had a two-run triple in the inning, while Haley Ahr and Sienna Kunze both had two-run singles.
  • Marist extended its lead to 10-0 in the fourth on an RBI triple by Pusey and sacrifice fly from Samantha Rogers.
  • Marist tacked on two more runs in the fifth on Marissa Scarano's first collegiate hit, an RBI single, and a sacrifice fly by Ahr.
  • The Red Foxes had nine hits, paced by Pusey with three. Pusey and Ahr each drove in three runs. Pusey, Ahr, and Annabelle Geiser scored two runs apiece.
  • Making her first collegiate start, Kaylie DeChicchis went the distance for her first win. She allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out two.
 
Game Two
  • Marist opened the scoring with a six-run top of the second, which included a two-run double off the bat of Samantha Rogers.
  • Sienna Kunze's sacrifice fly gave Marist a 7-1 advantage in the fourth.
  • The Red Foxes then erupted for seven runs in the fifth to put the game away. This was capped by Maia Salvo's first collegiate home run, which was a grand slam.
  • Marist stole 11 bases in the contest, led by Geiser and Pusey with three apiece.
  • The Red Foxes also had 11 hits, led by Geiser, Pusey, Haley Ahr, and McKenna Manley with two apiece.
  • Geiser led the team with three runs scored.
  • In her first start as a Red Fox, Ava Metzger allowed just one run in the first four innings to record the victory.

  • Marist closes out play in South Carolina on Sunday, when the Red Foxes again face Charleston Southern.
  • First pitch is set for noon.
