Marist Falls in Extra Innings at Charleston Southern

Manory Belts Homer in 5-4 Defeat

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The Marist University softball team dropped its final game of its opening weekend by a score of 5-4 in eight innings against Charleston Southern on Sunday.
 
The Red Foxes went 3-2 in tournament play this weekend.
 
Summary
  • Marist opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first. A fielder's choice off the bat of Samantha Rogers enabled Annabelle Geiser to score on a throwing error. Sienna Kunze's bases-loaded walk forced home Haley Ahr. Maia Salvo's sacrifice fly brought home Peyton Pusey.
  • Charleston Southern cut into its deficit with single runs in the first and second.
  • Isabella Manory's first home run of the season gave Marist a 4-2 lead in the fifth.
  • Charleston Southern got within one in the bottom of the fifth, and tied the game with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Buccaneers scored the winning run on an error with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Stats
  • Marist finished with six hits. Geiser and Manory had a team-best two apiece.
  • Emma Bayor started in the circle. She allowed just two hits in the first four innings.
  • Stella Blanchard went the final 3.2 in relief, and she recorded two strikeouts.
  • For Charleston Southern, Blakley Kingsmore went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. In the circle, Riley Lauffer went the distance and struck out eight.

  • Marist returns to action in tournament play at East Texas A&M next weekend.
