BALTIMORE, Md. – The Marist University men's tennis team recorded a 4-0 sweep over Loyola Maryland on Friday afternoon.
The Red Foxes opened the match with a strong showing in doubles, claiming the point with victories on all three courts. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan secured a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Graduate student Jose Catala and sophomore Gregor Heinemann followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2, and sophomore Ian Layton and freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Marist carried that momentum into singles play, winning three straight matches to clinch the team victory. Abella Fernandez earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Layton delivered a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2, and graduate student Danté Despontin sealed the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Suhanitski was competing at No. 4 before play was halted with the score at 4-6, 6-1. The matches at No. 5 and No. 6 did not begin after Marist secured the fourth point.
