EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Marist University men's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.
Marist opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins on two courts. Sophomore Thomas Bevan and senior Nick Suhanitski secured a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Ian Layton and freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the point. The No. 2 pair of sophomore Gregor Heinemann and graduate student Jose Catala fell 6-3.
In singles play, Catala delivered a strong performance at No. 1, earning a 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory. Bevan added another point for the Red Foxes with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. Heinemann then secured the match with a tight 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) victory at No. 6.
Abella Fernandez fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, while the matches at No. 3 and No. 4 featuring Layton and sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju were left unfinished once Marist secured the fourth point.
