POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Night in dominant fashion on Saturday evening, rolling past Iona, 17-6, at Tenney Stadium.
With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 5-2 overall and remained unbeaten in MAAC play at 3-0, while the Gaels dropped to 1-10 (1-2 MAAC).
Marist set the tone early and never looked back, scoring the game's first three goals and building a 6-3 halftime advantage. The Red Foxes then broke the game wide open with a seven-goal third quarter, turning a competitive contest into a rout.
Attacker Brady Dolan led the offensive explosion with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Collin Patrick added five points (3g, 2a), while Peter Murray matched him with a hat trick. Steven Cain (2g, 2a) and Matthew Chadwick (2g) also turned in multi-goal efforts as Marist showcased its depth, with eight different goal scorers on the night.
The Red Foxes were efficient and relentless offensively, outshooting Iona 59-34 and holding a 33-25 edge in ground balls. Marist also excelled in transition, successfully clearing 18 of 19 attempts.
Defensively, Marist limited Iona's opportunities throughout the game. Goalkeeper Richie Metzger earned the win with eight saves over nearly 50 minutes of action, while Adam Wachholder added four saves in relief.
After taking a 6-3 lead into the break, Marist seized full control in the third quarter. Goals from Patrick, Dolan, Murray, and Chadwick fueled a 7-1 run that extended the lead to 13-4 entering the final period. The Red Foxes continued to press in the fourth, adding four more goals, including late tallies from Andrew Mullan and Drew Weissman to cap the 17-6 victory.
Marist will be back in action on Wednesday, as the Red Foxes play host to MAAC rivals Siena. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ from Tenney Stadium.
