RICHMOND, VA. - The Marist men's outdoor track & field team opened its 2026 season on Friday at the Fred Hardy Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond at Robins Stadium. Battling warm temperatures and heavy winds throughout the day, the Red Foxes delivered an impressive season debut, totaling 11 top-10 finishes across track and field events.
Amari Mathis headlined the day with a dominant sprint performance. The junior captured first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.52, while also earning a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.88. His strong early-season form set the tone for Marist on the track.
Distance events proved to be another area of strength for the Red Foxes, particularly in the 5,000-meter run. Marist placed three runners among the top five, led by Sanjith Nomula's third-place finish in 15:03.07. Miles Chamberlain followed closely in fourth (15:16.80), with Isaac Gross rounding out the trio in fifth (15:21.29), showcasing the team's depth and competitiveness in the event.
In the steeplechase, Kevin Cannon turned in a standout performance, finishing second with a time of 9:34.32, matching his personal-best mark. His effort added to the Red Foxes' strong showing in distance disciplines.
Marist also found success in the field, where Daniel Vargas secured a third-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.85 meters (12 feet, 7.5 inches).
On the hurdles side, Miracle Okoli delivered a top-five finish in the 400-meter hurdles, placing fourth overall in 55.62. Christopher Lynch added a top-10 result in the 110-meter hurdles with a seventh-place finish.
Additional top-10 finishes included Manasi Simpkins, who placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters (21 feet, 7.25 inches), and the 4x400-meter relay team, which finished seventh with a time of 3:28.93.
The Red Foxes will be back in action next weekend at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State.
