SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Marist University men's tennis team fell to No. 22 Notre Dame, 7-0, on Sunday evening.
Notre Dame claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan dropped a 6-3 decision at the top spot, while graduate student Jose Catala and graduate student Dante Despontin fell 6-1 at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match featuring sophomore Gregor Heinemann and sophomore Fateh Singh went unfinished at 5-4.
In singles play, the Fighting Irish secured victories on all six courts. Catala fell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1, while freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision at No. 2. Sophomore Ian Layton was defeated 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, and sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju was edged 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 at No. 4.
Bevan fell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, and Heinemann rounded out the lineup with a 6-4, 6-4 loss at No. 6.
- The Red Foxes return to action with a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, March 28 against Niagara at Sportsplex New Windsor.
