Softball Takes Two at Mount

Red Foxes Score 19 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep

EMMITSBURG, Maryland – The Marist University softball team swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday.
 
The Red Foxes scored 19 runs and had 25 hits on the day. They earned a 10-5 win in game one, followed by a 9-6 triumph in game two.
 
Game One
  • Marist opened the scoring with four in the top of the first.
  • Mount scored once in the third, but Marist answered in the top of the fifth. Isabella Manory singled to lead off the inning, and she scored on a groundout by Maia Salvo.
  • Mount cut its deficit in half with two in the fifth, as three consecutive hitters reached with one out: Taylor Williams (double), Avery Dinges (RBI double), and Gina Del Giorno (RBI single).
  • Marist expanded its lead with a five-run seventh:
  • Mount scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, and the tying run reached the on-deck circle. However, Kaylie DeChicchis struck out the only batter she faced to end the game and earn a save.
  • Marist totaled 11 hits. Pusey, Ahr, Rogers, and Manory had two apiece.
  • Ahr had a team-leading three RBIs, followed by Rogers and Manory with two apiece.
  • Pusey scored two runs.
  • Ava Metzger (6-1) struck out four while working the first five innings.
 
Game Two
  • In the top of the second, Isabella Manory singled with one out, and Maia Salvo with two away. Peyton Pusey drove in both with a triple to right field.
  • Marist ran its lead to 5-0 in the third. Sienna Kunze belted a solo homer to left with two outs. After Livia Wiltsie singled, Manory homered to dead center.
  • Mount St. Mary's then scored three in the bottom of the inning, which included a two-run homer by Emma Tawney.
  • Marist got one back in the fourth. Maia Salvo led off the inning with a single. She came home on a groundout by Ahr.
  • Mount cut its deficit to 6-5 with a two-run fourth.
  • The Red Foxes responded with two in the fifth on consecutive two-out RBI singles by Salvo and Pusey.
  • Gina Del Giorno's RBI single cut Marist's lead to 9-6 in the sixth, which was the game's final run.
  • Marist had 14 hits, led by Annabelle Geiser with three. Pusey, Manory, Salvo, and Samantha Rogers had two apiece.
  • Pusey drove in a team-best three runs.
  • Manory scored three times.
  • Stella Blanchard (7-3) went the distance in the circle with 10 strikeouts.
 
Notes
  • Blanchard's 10 strikeouts were a career high, and the highest total by a Marist pitcher this season.
  • Metzger won her fifth straight start, and Blanchard won her fourth straight. Both are 4-0 against MAAC opponents this season.
  • Pusey, Rogers, and Manory each finished the day with four hits. Manory went 4-for-7 with four runs scored, four RBIs, a homer, a double, and a walk.
  • Kunze has four home runs in her last seven games.
 
Records
  • Marist is now 15-13 overall and 9-1 in MAAC play.
  • Mount stands at 6-20 this season and 3-4 in conference games.
