Box Score NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – The Marist University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Sacred Heart at Sportsplex New Windsor.
Marist opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins on two courts. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1, while sophomore Fateh Singh and graduate student Jose Catala followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2. The No. 3 pair of freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez and sophomore Ian Layton fell 6-3.
The Red Foxes carried that momentum into singles, winning four of six matches. Catala led the way with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1. Abella Fernandez added a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3, while sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju dominated 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.
Graduate student Dante Despontin secured the fourth point for Marist with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6. Layton dropped a three-set match at No. 2, falling 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, while Bevan was edged in a tight match at No. 5, 6-2, 1-6, 10-7.
