WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Marist University men's tennis team fell to Lamar, 4-2.
Lamar secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Nick Suhanitski and Thomas Bevan dropped a tight 7-6 (1) decision at No. 1, while sophomore Ian Layton and freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez fell 7-5 at No. 2. Graduate student Jose Catala and sophomore Fateh Singh earned a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Layton delivered a strong performance at No. 3, earning a 7-6 (13), 6-2 victory. Bevan followed with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 to secure the Red Foxes' second point.
Abella Fernandez fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, while graduate student Danté Despontin dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 5. At No. 6, Daniel Ramos battled through three sets before falling 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. The match at No. 2 singles featuring sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju was unfinished with the score at 3-6, 6-4, 4-4.
